Already have 3,000 words and a partial outline finished for reel_torchwood story. Did my homework for Civil Procedure for the entire week and now I'm working on some stuff for Secured Transactions and Tax Law before going back to writing.

Yeah, it's been raining all day but this is insanely productive even for me. It's a shame I forgot my Constitutional Law book at school or I'd be all sorts of on the ball.

Also, 3,000 words and I just now got to the part where you get a glimpse of the bad guy. Oh god, this story is going to be way too long if I don't get it under control.

Obviously, there are GIANT SPOILERS for Miracle Day under the cut. Do not read unless you've finished watching the series.

THE WAITING IS KILLING ME.

I want to write an episode coda on one of the episodes that seldom get written about. I can't figure out which one of those to do though.

Suggestions?

Warning: There Are Spoilers For Miracle Day: Episode 10 In The Comments.

Realizing that a 7,000+ word document is on a computer in the house, in a folder on that computer, and not knowing where to look.

You'd think this wouldn't be a problem for most people. But no, I have two desktops, a laptop and a netbook and I'm having to hunt through every single one of them because I name files things like "artichokes" and "sdklfhdsklf."

Wtf.

This will be the last one before we head toward to the audio books/radio plays. Huzzah.

It still works the same. The books are listed in order of when they would/should occur in the Torchwood time line. I've rated each book on a scale from 1-5. The reviews are short and spoiler free and, if I find I can't review without giving a spoiler, I'll warn beforehand. I assume though that if you're reading about tie-in novels you've seen all of Torchwood up to Children of Earth. I can't guarantee any comments, however, are spoiler free. If a book is a particular must read I'll make sure to say.

As before, just because I'm listing these books in a particular order that doesn't mean that's how they need to be read. I didn't read them in order. Pick ones that sound fun to you.

That's the case I'm suppose to be reading right now for Constitutional Law. I... have no motivation at all. I need to do it though. What have I done instead of my 100+ pages of reading for tomorrow?

Well, today I made a pot roast. Chopped up the veggies, made my special gravy that Kyle loves, seared it and threw it into the crock pot. Made some cole slaw to serve with it. Baked a loaf of bread. Cleaned the house. Walked the dog. Tumblr. Livejournal. Took a nap.

I realized I had a problem when I caught myself cleaning out my livejournal friends list. The one I've already gotten cleaned down to fifty people. I did find some more people that I hadn't spoken to, nor had they updated their journal, in the last five years. Still. Sort it out, girl, sort it out.

So. I'm admitting this procrastination problem because something something first step is admitting to a problem. I hope it helps?

Title: Bloody Melodramas
Author: firesnap
Rating: PG
Pairing/Characters: Jack, appearances by Team Torchwood.
Summary: Jack can be the leader of Torchwood Three. He’s good at that. He’s good at love and lying too.
Notes: This story hasn’t been beta’d, as a warning. It’s my first attempt to try and write something from Jack’s perspective. It’s just a little piece trying to get into Jack’s head.
Contains: Language, unbeta'd writing.
Relevant Episodes: None. Pre-Exit Wounds.
Disclaimer: Torchwood and all of its characters are owned by the BBC and Russell T. Davies. I make nothing from writing this and wouldn’t take your filthy money if you offered it. All characters included and mention within are of legal age.

Jack understands love, and lying, more than most people think. )

Okay, so I've thought about how I'm going to do this. Basically, I wiki'd what "order" the books are suppose to be in and crosschecked to what I've read/listened-to-if-it's-an-audio. Each book will be given a grade from a 1-5 scale. Books that I think are especially good or interesting reads I'll make sure to mention. All the reviews are going to be spoiler free and, if by any chance I can't review it without a spoiler, I'll give warning. Enjoy.

Another note! While I am posting these in their order in the Torchwood timeline of things, I didn't read them in order. In fact, I recommend picking up whichever books sound the most interesting to you. I still haven't finished Another Life or Border Princes. I made the mistake of getting an audio version of one and got bored with the other. So, we'll be skipping those, yeah?

Okay, as always, heavy spoilers for Miracle Day under the cut. Also, a lot of ramblings about Miracle Day in general, as it is near the end of the series. A bonus this week is a very quick review of Long Time Dead -- the new Torchwood novel. I'm actually thinking of writing quick blurb reviews for all of the Torchwood novels I've read. That'll be a fun chore and let me sort through some of my ebooks. Anyway, be warned as always of un-edited massive ramblings from a huge fangirl.

Title: Games We Play
Author: firesnap
Rating: PG
Pairing/Characters: Ianto, Jack.
Summary: Ianto and Jack have an in-cursion.
Notes: This story hasn’t been beta’d, as a warning. It’s part of a series of small stories I’ve been writing to get an idea of Jack and Ianto’s characters before I work at improving things like description and um, writing in general. It’s dialogue heavy and mostly just a scene of them interacting. Playing cards show up again, because that’s theme to these. I think. Pfft. Whatever. It’s two men drinking and asking each other annoying questions.
Contains: Language, unbeta'd writing.
Relevant Episodes: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, squint and Doctor Who season 3 finale.
Disclaimer: Torchwood and all of its characters are owned by the BBC and Russell T. Davies. I make nothing from writing this and wouldn’t take your filthy money if you offered it. All characters included and mention within are of legal age.

I posted this on Tumblr and I thought I'd repost it here. Tumblr has had quite a few um... negative Torchwood moments lately.

I don’t know if people know this — actually, you totally should, I don’t hide it, but I have favorite characters. I love Gwen and Ianto. Insane amounts. They are the 1 & 2 for me of this fandom. And I love Jack, because it’s impossible not to be fond of the other two and not have insane love for Jack as well. Jack was my favorite companion on Doctor Who and the reason I started watching, and still watch, Torchwood. However, the other two are just fun characters that, to me, are what make Torchwood unique from the mother show.

First… a quick word on what I like about them.

I think the most interesting thing Ianto did on the show, not the books or audio plays, was give Gwen the GPS for Flat Holm. That little betrayal, with no background or reason given for why he did it, gave his character more depth than anything else he did in the second half of Season 2. Also, I remain convinced that he cheated on Lisa, in some way, with Jack — which totally puts him and Gwen on the same playing field. Why do I think that? Because the actors think he did too. Heck, I think his interactions with Jack, including everything in Fragments, were worse than Gwen’s affair with Owen tenfolds. I still like him as a character. I like him because of those things. I like that he lied about his dad and manipulates people to achieve his goals as much as I like that he’s probably a bit obsessive compulsive, sarcastic and clean cut.

I like the fact that Gwen isn’t selfless all the time and has a hard time separating her emotions from situations — to me, that makes her more human than if she went around caring about puppies and Weevils. She is not Rose. She fucks up beautifully and gets so tangled in her own ideas and preconceptions that I feel for her. Why? Because I’m fairly certain that’s how a real person would act in her place. She isn’t perfect and her motivations, as much as she wants them to be for the good, sometimes aren’t. Real humans won’t always make the right decisions. Real people can be stubborn and narrow minded. Sometimes I think if Gwen was male people wouldn’t have problems with her more “negative” personality traits. They’d see her tendancy to jump into situations and make quick judgments as brave and signs of a good leader. Sometimes, I think there’s some real ingrained sexism going on in Gwen’s status. That’s probably a can of worms we don’t want to open right now though. I do think people forget that Gwen can be compassionate and sweet and generally just wants to do good things with her job. Adrift is the perfect and best episode to show Gwen’s personality. Her search for Jonah was probably, honestly, Gwen at her most selfless. She just wanted to help someone. It backfired horribly, which happens, and it happened because she didn’t see that there were greater consequences to her actions than just “doing good.”

So, why do I like Gwen and Ianto? Why, to me, do they symbolize what makes Torchwood different from Doctor Who? It’s because they’re flawed and complicated characters. I don’t get why people would want to gloss over the bad things that either of them have done — to me that just shows that they live in a more grown up world than Rose or Amy. Jack isn’t the Doctor. He’s messed up and screws up a lot. As a result, his companions (and I think the argument could definitely be made that Gwen and Ianto represented his companions more than Tosh or Owen did) are going to reflect that too. They’re both important. They’re both a bit Mary Sue. They’re both beautifully fucked up at times. And they’re brilliant.

Wow this is long. Sorry.

Damnit, Ianto Jones. I love you but some of your fans drive me insane.

Haha my Torchwood Secret is the best. :-X Actually, I'm fairly certain if anyone talked to me for more than five minutes, they would totally figure out I made that.

Title: Give and Take
Author: firesnap
Rating: PG
Pairing/Characters: Ianto, Suzie, Jack.
Summary: Suzie and Ianto play cards, discuss Torchwood and try to find a point to it all.
Notes: This story hasn’t been beta’d,and I think it's still a WIP, but I'm putting it up anyway. I'm not going to put it any communities until I figure out if I'm done. This is the first piece of fanfiction I've written in six years so... it's kinda choppy. Bah.
Authors Notes (The Sequel): Yeah. I'm stuck so I guess it's done.
Contains: Language, Canon Character Death
Relevant Episodes: Everything Changes, Cyberwoman, They Keep Killing Suzie
Disclaimer: Torchwood and all of its characters are owned by the BBC and Russell T. Davies. I make nothing from writing this and wouldn’t take your filthy money if you offered it. All characters included and mention within are of legal age.

Suzie had been a secret card shark. Actually, that wasn’t a fair assessment. Suzie rarely played where money was involved, but she did have an unnatural talent for card games in general.  )

I am not going to finish this story for the Torchwood Big Bang in time for the rough draft deadline. I'm still going to hack away on it but it's longer than I originally intended, and, the big problem, is that my second year of law school starts tomorrow.

I still have sixty pages to read about the history and purpose of zoning laws before tomorrow. I'm taking the worst classes ever this semester. Civil Procedure: Jurisdiction, Constitutional Law: Personal Rights, Federal Personal Income Tax Law, Secured Transactions and Land Use Controls and Regulations.

Oh god, what have I gotten myself into?

I really, really need a beta for four Torchwood fics I have written. I'm not promising they're anything earth shattering, but they're quick character focused pieces I wrote to get myself in the right mindset for the big fic I'm working on. I've already put a request out on the Torchwood Writers Union, but if anyone has a working knowledge of the fandom and wants to help a sister out, let me know.

Miracle Day was particularly awesome this week. I was quite pleased. I also had issues with some of it, but those have been addressed by a lot of people. I still don't get why RTD refuses to use a canon bible, but whatever. I'll post some more on that probably one day during class.

Happy Birthday, Jones Ianto Jones. Your little quips are sorely missing in Miracle Day. Le Sigh.

I think later today I'm going to relisten to House of the Dead just to make things HORRIBLY PAINFUL.

No, really though, huzzah for an excuse to look a pretty pictures and watch Season 2 Torchwood episodes.

I feel so bad for any random person still on my friendslist from before this became my Torchwood fandom/squee blog. At least enjoy the ride, kiddos.

Anyway, I don't know who posted this in the [livejournal.com profile] tw_gleeclub chat, but someone did and I love them forever as a result. I've shown this video to like half a dozen people now for the lol factor and usually I don't even like fan videos. I am now convinced Andy Samburg based this song on Jack Harkness. Also, any time the blowfish is used, I die from laughter.

[Error: unknown template video]

I now have 3 completed works of fan created fiction. I need to get Lindsey or someone to beta them for me.

So last night [livejournal.com profile] tw_gleeclub did a Miracle Day watchalong chat. This was much more enjoyable than just refreshing LJ desperately when something good happened. I wish I had saved a chat log though. Some people were hilarious. Afterwards, to get us over the ~dramas~ of MD, we watched Countrycide. Oh man, that was good. I think I spent ten minutes marveling at Tosh's boobs. And, everyone agrees, for the millionth time, that Ianto wore some great jeans in that episode. I want to do a classic!TW rewatch after Miracle Day next week too. It's a great contrast to the current season and just... fun.

I know I've behind on the past episode, but seeing as I was distraught at one particular turn of event, I think that's acceptable.

River Song says SPOILERS beneath this cut )
